Over the past couple of years, we have been getting a bunch of orders for trophies. Surfing, snowboarding, car shows, etc. Most of all, Wooden SUP Race Trophies (stand up paddleboarding) have been the most popular. We have sent trophies to Puerto Rico, all over the US, and Canada for various races. The ones pictured below are for a race this weekend in upstate NY. Best of luck to all the contestants!
Last year, I had the idea that I wanted to print out one of my favorite photos of Ocean City and make it into a mural. Now, a year later, I finally got everything in place and was able to install it. The Ocean City Mural is located between 9th and 10th Street on Washington Lane (alley near the boardwalk). It’s 20′ long by 4′ high and is made up of 50 individual pieces of wood that were cut, routed, and printed at our shop in Ocean City. The photo displayed was taken on Labor Day of 2013 from the Ocean City pier, looking north. People have been stopping by to take photos in front of it and some people have even been able to identify themselves or others in the photo! Swing by if you are around Ocean City and see for yourself!
We have been working with RiseUp Coffee Roasters for a little over a year now and are always thrilled when they come to us for a point of sale signage job. We have done aluminum prints, wood prints, and now we are even playing around with some repurposed burlap from their coffee bean bags! They are an awesome company with a deep rooted respect for the environment and they are taking the Mid Atlantic by storm! Find them online, nearby, or in Whole Foods throughout the region. Best of luck to RiseUp! The prints pictured here are made from 1/4″ Birch Plywood and come with a stand so that they can be displayed upright without a large footprint.
Summer has literally flown by. In June, we got the call to produce all of the Dew Tour trophies and it feels like it was yesterday! Growing up, I always watched guys like Ryan Nyquist, Bob Burnquist, Bucky Lasek, and Andy MacDonald and wanted to be a pro skateboarder, bmx rider, or surfer. While that didn’t exactly work out, I’m pretty darn excited to have pieces of art that I made hanging in their homes. These trophies came out great and I look forward to working with the Town of Ocean City to provide them for the event each year. Huge congrats to all the winners!
In the last few months, two of our good friends (and great restaurants) approached us to do wooden menu boards for them. Hank Sauce is an awesome eatery in Sea Isle City, NJ that serves up some local cuisine and spices it up with their signature line of hot sauces (which are used on every meal at Plak That headquarters). District Taco is a small local chain serving up some of the best made to order tacos and burritos north of the Rio Grande. Both projects turned out great so we couldn’t be happier to work with these companies. Hopefully they grow exponentially and they’ll need more!
Recently, businesses have been coming to us asking for acrylic light box inserts for their backlit signs. This is something that we are doing more and more of because instead of just (boring) vinyl lettering, businesses can do full-color inserts with photos, logos, and more. Below is a photo of one that we did for Pizza Boy, on 11th street and the Boardwalk in Ocean City. We will keep adding more to this post as we get more jobs done! The printing is completely weatherproof and can also be printed on the inside of the acrylic for a gloss finish. Email us if you have more questions or to request a quote!
Last month we attended a tradeshow in Atlanta called Americasmart. The show is the largest we have ever done, with three buildings, thousands of vendors, and some permanent showrooms. The response for Plak That was great, we met a ton of great people and we look forward to doing business with accounts all over the world very soon! Here is a photo of our booth, something we saw on the way, and how packed my truck was for the drive! We will be attending the same show in January and you can find us on the second floor of Building 2, booth 2202 in the (proudly) Made in America section!
