About Us

OUR STORY

In 2012 I was working at a surf shop on the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD when I came across a digitally printed wooden sign for a beverage company. I was intrigued by the process and decided to reach out to the manufacturer to see if photos could be printed on the wooden board. After doing some initial orders for friends and for the shop, I decided to launch Plak That. I learned how to build the wooden blanks and would take them over to a local print shop for the printing, and then ship them out of my parents garage. Eventually outgrowing the garage and my parents patience, I was able to get a small business loan and Plak That opened its doors in summer of 2013.

Fast-forward 8 years and thousands of plaks later, our business is now capable of much more than the original photos on wood. While the photos and online ordering is still a huge part of the business, we are also doing quite a bit of commercial signage, awards, and custom CNC routing. We have acquired some other technology that allows us to make everything in-house and the CNC machine has really helped us with cutting blanks and creating some amazing signage (check out our portfolio here). While there are some pretty crazy times of the year (like the Christmas rush), we all have a good time and enjoy creating unique prints, signs, and awards for our customers. If you have an idea for something out of the box and creative, shoot us an email to see if we might be able to make it happen. Thanks for all the support and love :)
